Privacy policy

dealfou is a curated deals website for Canadians. This policy explains what information is handled when you visit the site, vote on deals, and use its sharing tools. It is written to meet the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25).

Information we collect

dealfou does not currently require an account, collect submissions, or ask for your name, email address, or other contact details. We do not use advertising cookies or behavioural tracking, and we do not use any technology to identify, locate, or profile you.

Visit statistics

To understand how many people visit dealfou and which pages they view, the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not set cookies, use local storage, or fingerprint your browser. When a page loads, it sends Cloudflare anonymous technical details such as the page address, the referring site, your browser and device type, and page load times. Cloudflare receives your IP address to deliver this request and states that it does not use it to track you. We see only totals, never individual visitors. Blocking scripts from cloudflareinsights.com in your browser stops this without affecting the site.

Cookies and votes

When you upvote a deal, dealfou sets one functional cookie containing a random identifier so the same browser can't vote twice. It isn't linked to your name, email, or any other site, and it isn't used for tracking or advertising. Your browser also remembers which deals you voted on in local storage so the vote buttons show correctly. Clearing your site data removes both. To limit abuse, the server briefly keeps a salted hash of your IP address in memory while counting votes; it is never written to disk.

On our server, each vote is stored with that random identifier and the time it was cast. It is kept for as long as the deal remains on dealfou, including after the deal expires. Removing your vote deletes that record.

Theme preference

If you pick light or dark mode, dealfou saves that choice in a cookie named dealfou_theme for up to a year. It is read only by your browser to set the colours. Choosing "Match device" removes it.

Language preference

On your first visit, dealfou uses the language setting your browser sends to show the site in English or French; it isn't stored. If you use the EN/FR switch, that choice is saved in a cookie named dealfou_langfor up to a year so the site stays in your language.

Cookies and storage at a glance

  • dealfou_voter (cookie): random identifier that prevents double voting. Set when you first vote; kept for 1 year.
  • dealfou_theme (cookie): your light or dark choice. Kept for 1 year, or removed when you pick "Match device".
  • dealfou_lang (cookie): the language you picked with the EN/FR switch. Kept for 1 year.
  • dealfou:votes (local storage): the deals you voted on, so vote buttons show correctly. Kept until you clear site data.

All of these are needed for features you use and are never used for advertising, analytics, or profiling. You can delete them at any time by clearing dealfou's site data in your browser.

Sharing links

When you select Share, your device's share sheet opens, or the deal link is copied to your clipboard. The link is not sent to dealfou by this action. Your browser and operating system control sharing and clipboard access.

Some deal links may be affiliate links. If you follow one and make a purchase, dealfou may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not change the price you pay or the editorial selection of deals.

Third-party services

Cloudflare provides the visit statistics described above, and Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs that processing. Product images and fonts are served by dealfou itself.

Where information is stored

dealfou's server, including the record of votes, is hosted by OVHcloud in Quebec, Canada, along with the product images. Cloudflare, which provides the visit statistics, may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country is subject to that country's laws and may be accessible to its courts and authorities.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information dealfou holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or withdraw your consent and ask for it to be deleted, by contacting us at the address below. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec if you live in Quebec.

Deal links can take you to merchant websites. dealfou is not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of those external sites. Review their policies before providing personal information.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as dealfou adds features or third-party services. The latest version will always be published on this page.
